Where to begin. . .

This post is going to be a bunch of pictures from earlier this week. I’ll be working the next three days. . . so I thought I should get something up here before “some of you” (you know who you are) come and hunt me down!

David and I (and poor little Colt – though he does like to push the cart and pretty much thinks the whole store is a huge playground) have been at Lowe’s far too many hours these past few days. If we got paid by the hour that we are “in Lowe’s” then we would have plenty of extra cash to finish some projects around here! 🙂 These are a few regular occurances of a Colt Day – running around the backyard. . .

A couple of trip-and-falls on the deck, followed by some “drumming” on the deck. . .

Watching “Dadda” and hollaring at him so he knows. . .

Getting into things he shouldn’t . . .

Showing off those pearly whites! (made of packaging material from the light fixtures we bought) I knew he was playing with that box, but I thought atleast I know where he is and he can’t hurt himself with that. Only to find him eating the packaging materials that were inside the box (originally – before he got to it)! Oh well, you can tell by the picture that he didn’t really like it. . .

On to another day in the life ———-

A beautiful “new” park just opened up down the road (the irony is that this “new” park was built on a huge farm that was hundreds of years old)! We had a little bday celebration for a friend with some delicious watermelon and games for young and old alike – though I spent most of exploring with Colt and interrupting the games as he tried to get the balls they were playing with).

Climbing the walls with Daddy

Love this picture! They are best buds and my best buds:-)

Well, it’s back to work tomorrow. With vacation last week, my work schedule has fell in a way that I have been off for 2 whole weeks!! It’s be quite lovely and for some reason the past 3 days with the little man have been better than ever! We have had such fun and he’s be such a delight – not that he isn’t usually, but he hasn’t been rotten more than a few moments of the past few days! haha.
He’s growing and changing so much. I think it’s been more fun because we are actually communicating in new ways. He’s repeating a lot (verbally and physically) which it usually quite amusing and brings joy to our day. The funniest is when he plays with a phone and jabbers into it. . . usually his “hello” comes out “yayo” or “yah.” It’s the little things they pick up that you don’t even TRY to teach them that is so funny/precious/scary!
Anyways, enjoy the pics and enjoy the rest of your week!

Happy Anniversary Love

Today. . . though Colt is important to us, we still recognize the importance of putting the Lord first, our spouse second, and then the little munchkin. David has always stressed that and other little things that we put into practice daily that keeps our love rekindled and reminds us of our commitment to each other.

Though I still have a long way to go to become the godly wife and mother that I dream of, I am so thankful for my husband of 2 years now. And I am so looking forward to a lifetime to come – though I pray the Lord returns even sooner! Life with you Babe is full of fun and laughter, excitement and adventure for the unknown future. Thank you for being such a wonderful husband and father. You are such a blessing and example to me. I love you very very much!

(David is sickly today – – don’t know how exactly we’re going to celebrate the anniversary, but for now David will be sleeping and I’ll be taking him gatorade :-0)
————————————————————————————————-

1 year ago, hand in hand, we brought this little one into the world. David was such a wonderful husband through that first year. He was so patient, kind, and loving. He’s definitely a hard worker too! And most importantly tacking godly man onto that. . . what more could I ask for?

2 years ago I married the man of my dreams. . .

Happy Birthday Baby Boy!

Yesterday was the little man’s 1st birthday! It’s hard to remember where we were this time last year isn’t it? It’s also pretty crazy how time has flown by! We are really enjoying this little boy that the Lord has given to us for sure!

David and I remember when found out that I was pregnant. I cried. . . David was in shock. We had only been married 3 months you know! – hence, we came home from the hospital on our 1 year anniversary. Then, if you remember (because we’ll never forget) those next 6 months of pretty much vomiting 24/7. . . David was so patient and good to me through that difficult time. The last 3 months of pregnancy was great though and we were excited about our little arrival.

Colt came on August 2, 2008 at 11:37 pm. 8 pounds 11 ounces and 21 1/4 inches (a mother never forgets!). He was so precious and such a good eater and sleeper. Those first year milestones flew by and look where we are! It’s like having a little boy. . . not a baby. . . around now. He’s a little walker and talker, and such a blessing from above. We can’t wait to have a house full!! Don’t read into that though – – there are no plans for the near future (not our plans anyways).

We are having a great time here at the lake. Uncle Dale and Aunt B have joined us and have been spoiling us with some delicious meals! When we go on vacation, we usually go on vacation and eat cereal for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, and go out for dinner or cook the fish that the men catch while we’re here (so far we have 6 striper in the freezer). Well, Uncle Dale has changed all of that – which we all agree should become a new tradition – and fixed us salmon, monk fish, yellow fin tuna, and shrimp the first night. We had delicious mexican with homemade salsa and guacamole, and hot dogs and homemade chili and slaw yesterday for our meals after a huge breakfast! I really don’t think I need to eat the rest of the week, but he has already bought the steaks for tonight 😉

We’ve been enjoying the water, outdoors, and family along with the food though you know! It’s so good to see Jacob and Sarah. Sarah is quite the funniest little baby – her personality is one of a kind and hilarious!

The babies together keep us moving. They are good to entertain themselves and each other. They share lots of hugs 🙂 Sarah is trying to help Colt get his shoe back on here. . .

We are looking forward to some more fun in the sun and water today Lord willing!

All things new. . .

Well, with the new home comes a new place to play! No, we don’t have a baseball field in our back yard, but we do live right around the corner from an awesome park for the little man! David and I were talking about some of our favorite things about our new (first) place – they included the location and park, as well as the screened in porch and backyard. We love to be outside and so does Colt. We were outside for hours today (since the inside of the house is pretty much upside down with moving and updates that we are doing ourselves). We’ve been to the park every morning while it’s still cool and then play on the porch in the shade in the afternoons. It’s quite lovely 🙂

Cute and in stride. . .
Do you really have to eat the sand EVERY time you touch it Colt?

I guess Colt has been watching his Daddy kick the ball, because at the park this morning he started running around kicking the ball instead of throwing it like he normally does. It was quite amusing because he was actually doing a pretty good job staying behind it and with it 🙂 haha.

(first soccer lesson)
Thank the Lord for vacation! We are heading out away from work and this “mess” we’ve created here – though things are coming together and looking great in some rooms! David has been working soo hard. I’m really proud of him and thankful for him! Love you Babe ~

PB&J

Our little Peanut loves peanut butter and jelly! So, yeah I know, some say don’t give them peanut butter this early, but my ‘Super Baby Foods’ book (that I’ve been using to make all the “age appropriate” baby foods for Colt since 6 months) said it would be totally good for them! Plus, we definitely don’t have any PB allergies in this family. Heath and I LOVED them growing up! (I still do actually). David loves his too – before we got married he ate more peanut butter than anyone I had ever met in my life. He put it on apples, carrots, in his oatmeal, plain. . . you know . . . with everything basically.

That’s how it all started. Little Beggar Boy here comes up to Mommy eating her PB&J one afternoon and asked for a bite in his usual way – “AAGH and bite bite” – We are working on “bite please” 😉 haha.

Anyways, I fixed him a piece of bread with thinned peanut butter with a touch of whole fruit jam and he says “mmm mmm” pretty much the whole time he’s eating lunch. He’s had it several time and no reaction. So, we have another PB lover. I gave him some milk to wash it down for the first time today. That was also amusing. He took one sip and thought about it, then guzzled the whole thing with lots of smiles in between. I’m sure Colt was thinking “Uncle Heath would be proud.”

You can always count on this kid to be carrying his ball or truck walking around. He’s listening to his Daddy play the guitar. Totally captivated!

David and I are still putting in the hours at our house. I think it’s pretty consistent that we stay there until 2 am each morning. So, that on top of my night shift hours this week – – we are both quite tired. It is looking really great in our room and Colt’s room though! We got all of the wall paper down yesterday too. So. . . it’s coming around and we are quite excited!!

What we have learned:
1. The quickest route to Lowe’s
2. DollarTree has a lot of good stuff
3. We are becoming professional painters
4. Those “magic erasers” really are magical
5. How to take off popcorn ceiling
6. Learning the lingo of the carpet world as we shop around
7. How to clean electrical outlets without getting shocked and make them look brand new
8. The power of GooGone
9. Why we don’t like wallpaper (it’s pretty, but not fun to take down)
10. How to enjoy this crazy time together

The Simple Things

His reaction when Mommy put on the funny glasses. . .

The first place he goes when we go outside. . . EVERYday and EVERYtime – to our neighbors’ “ball” and little water table. A change of clothes and usually a bath is inevitable.

The splashing felt soo good on a hot afternoon.

His vain attempts to get in the water all the way.

He has also become fascinated with the source of the water here. . . Since he has somehow figured out how to turn it on I guess we’ll need to pay special attention or we may just have some massive water bill/leak/damage one day as this little guy grows up!

It’s been quite a busy weekend. We were finally able to close on the house Friday. It was a day of mixed emotions. We are so excited and thankful for what the Lord has blessed us with, but also nervous about “spending our life savings!” ha. We’ve been working almost nonstop with cleaning and painting, but it seems like we’ve only made a small dent! It’s also really hard when you have a little one. I can’t help clean and paint – two things that aren’t baby friendly for sure! – when Colt is around. David has been going at it non stop and I jump in when Colt is napping or when we put him down around 7 at night.
You don’t realize how much you miss family when it comes to needing a babysitter! Thankfully we have made some dear friends with our neighbors – truly gift from above.
As for the house. . . it’s been fun to pick out paint, and I thought that I liked to clean. . .but whoever lived here before left us PLENTY to clean. It’s shaping up though and I’ll post pics of before and after when it’s finished.
Until then, we’ll just keep making the most of each day and enjoying the simple things – we don’t want to get caught up in the affairs of the world buying a first home and staying so busy.

Bumpes and Scrapes

When you are learning something new. . . you have to fall sometime.

Colt has really “taken off” with walking. He was running across the yard yesterday and did a face plant right onto the sidewalk. David and I were both out there. We were hanging out with the neighbors – We go outside everyday, and Colt loves to run around and play in the yard. Of course, he still falls. . . Usually he pops right back up without a wimper, but not this time. David looked over and saw it coming and we couldn’t get there fast enough.

It looked pretty bad at first. His nose was bloody. His lip was puffy and bleeding – there was blood coming out of his mouth where he busted his lip. Yuck.

After we gave him a bath, and he drank a whole cup of water. . . we realized he still had all of his teeth and he was doing fine. He’s still sporting some scrapes this morning, but I’m just thankful it wasn’t worse. He’s a tough little dude. He hasn’t acted like it bothers him at all, except for the initial moment of course 🙂

He’s started pulling down these 3 books every time he walks into his room. He’ll sit there and “read” rather than play with the other things around. . . except for his balls of course. He’s still on the “ball” kick. He also has been saying “dada” ALL the time (which I quite miss hearing “mama” all the time, but now David gets to feel extra loved). He’s saying “book,” and this morning he learned “pot” during his fascination with our pot rack and the clanging of the pots and pans. That was kind of funny to hear him say since he’s never repeated it before, and it came out “pa.”

As you can see, he’s still walking. That fall, and the pain, didn’t even phase him. David and I were reading in 2 Peter chapter 1 this morning and I was struck by the exhortation to acquire: faith, virtue, knowledge, steadfastness, self control, godliness, brotherly affection, and love. Because with these you “cannot and will not be ineffective or unfruitful” for the Lord. With these. . . you cannot stumble or fall. But, when you do. . . just get up and keep walking.
