baby blue, peek-a-boo, and phonics too

Colt’s learning new things everyday. Today (after this video of course) he learned cat/meow — which sounds more like MOW! — and where his feet are. He’s a trip that keeps us on our toes. My #1 fella, though, has been working on the house like crazy. You can see in the video it is looking better than before! We are getting our new countertops and carpet next week – praise the Lord! Then things will start moving forward for sure ๐Ÿ™‚

If anyone would like to use the “Clean Up” song for themselves, I have yet to obtain a copyright. . . it is an original — hence the words don’t really make sense, but Colt likes it!

The Adventures of Colt and Sarah

Well, we seemed to find about 48 hours to visit my parents for my dad’s birthday – I won’t mention how old he is, but we did have a big celebration last year for his 50th. (Sorry to my WV friends that we didn’t have time to visit – – it just wasn’t nearly long enough!). It was great to see the fam at the cook out though and of course, the little ones picked up right where they left off. Sarah was waiting for Colt when we pulled in the driveway. . . and Colt had brought her flowers because, well. . . girls like flowers.

“Sarah, what do you want to do now that we’re both at Gramps’ and Nana’s? We could ride bikes, climb the tallest trees, go cow tipping, hide from Nana Gail, eat bugs or dig for worms? I’ll even let you pick!”

“hmm, I don’t remember giving you that suggestion, but it sounds like fun! And Daddy says to agree with the girl when possible, so let’s go!”

Sarah shows Colt exactly what drawer the carrots are in and they jump in the wagon to go feed the horse! That’s right. . . Gramps is boarding a horse now too. It’s becoming a regular looking farm down there (and smelling like one too).
Of course, Sarah shows Colt how to eat the majority of the carrots too. You can get as many carrots as you can hold. Gramps usually carries extras. I can hold 7, but I’ll probably eat 6 of them and give 1 to the horse.”

“I still surprise my little self. I ate all 7 this time. Guess I’ll have to feed the horse some of Gramps’ extra carrots.”
“Hey Sarah! Do you think the horse AND the cow will BOTH fit in the wagon. I think we should take them up to the house and show Nana Gail, don’t you think she would LOVE that?”

“hmm. . . yeah, I think they could maybe both fit?”
“I know how to work this gate, so we can come back and do that later, ok cuz?”

Will the babies really bring the horse and cow home in the little red wagon?

We wouldn’t be smiling if they did. . . but it wouldn’t surprise me if it happened a couple of years down the road!

Bonjour!

It’s been so long I don’t even know where to start to catch up! We’ve had a busy few weeks though. . . but I have been taking pictures. So we’ll start with these from almost 2 weeks ago.
David’s cousin Samuel and his family happened to be in from France. It was neat because I had never met them, and I was actually working that day, but got off early enough to see them all. Lea and Colt got along like they knew they were cousins or something. She was born in June and Colt in August – – so they were quite similar in their behavior.

Precious girl . . . and such a precious family! I guess we’ll have to pay them a visit in France now?

I’ll post more pics of our travels this past week soon, but I didn’t want to mix up posts or post 50 pictures all at once! ๐Ÿ™‚

Pictures from our "alk"

“alk” – as defined by Colt David Miles means to go outside on a walk. So, this afternoon when he went to the door and repeatedly said “alk alk” in his cute little voice we “alked” up to visit Daddy at school and take him some lunch.

After my honey went to class, I decided to take some pics since it was such a beautiful day and the campus is so nice!

Return of the Grim Reaper

This child of mine. . . he turns up with something new everytime I look at him. It’s hard to tell where my cell phone is right now, but most of the time it’s in his toy box. He loves the phones and carries on the cutest little conversations (with good changes in his pitch too). He’s also good at carrying it between his ear and shoulder. It’s quite funny!

Yesterday he walks in my closet and comes out dressed like this –

He prefers to walk around with blankets and clothing covering his head. Don’t know why. . . The good news is that the blankets usually cushion his head when he runs into the doors and walls ๐Ÿ™‚

Another thing interesting with this child. . . probably boys in general – It’s been so nice and cool around here that I just left the door open to the screened in porch and let Colt play outside while I was working in the kitchen today. Well, I happened to look outside when I didn’t here the balls bouncing and him making noise. Colt was standing up on one of our lawn chairs and getting ready to step off! Of course, I yelled “COLT!” and he stopped midstep and waited for me. I didn’t even know he could climb that high by himself!! Crazy kid. Can’t take my eyes off of him I suppose.

I tried to take him for a real walk today. . . you know, actually letting him walk instead of pushing him in the stroller or his little baby tricycle. That didn’t work. He was running full speed ahead down the sidewalk (I could just see a face plant and disfigured face coming). Then he would detour towards some house, yard, or toy. He’s not ready for the free range yet.

He does love “babies” though. All children about 5 and under get the “baby baby!” greeting followed by a pat on the head and “awe”/hug. He was hating the cart during our early morning run to Walmart until he spotted another little girl his age. He was so excited and talking up a storm “at” her! It was times like that that I think to myself. . . I wish I had two! (and no, we aren’t planning our next one yet)

Atย chrchย tonight I took off Colt’s diaper while he was standing up because it was so full that he was sagging (such a bad mom. . .). Well, the kid pees in the floor almost immediately! I thought we had grown out of that stage, but I guess I was wrong. David wanted me work on potty training this week too.

He’s actually been wanting to wear his shoes lately – which is pretty much the first time in his whole 13 month life. He’s also getting to where he’ll “help” you get him dressed – you know like holding the arms and legs out and putting his head through the hole. I can’t believe he’s growing up!

I think that’s all for tonight. . . my honey and I are going to work on the house some – our romantic evening together ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s a tad warm here. . .

So, we’re still working here around the house. David is doing great being Mr. Handy Man. He’s quite the talent (but then again, I knew I had a catch)! Love you Babe ๐Ÿ™‚ The only thing that has gone “other than planned” is that the air conditioner has gone out twice in the last week. The first time, I was noticing it was reading in the 80’s on our thermostat but the a/c man couldn’t get here until the next day – – by the Lord’s grace we all slept well that night despite the heat.

Well, the same thing happened today. We aren’t sure how. . . but it was fixed by this evening. We just pulled out the water and played in the back yard to cool off today. Colt would rather be outside anyways – – – – –

Another day in the life. . .

Colt and I walked to another park today. It’s the craziest thing, but there are 4-5 parks within a couple of miles from our home! So, we get out to one of them about everyday ๐Ÿ™‚

Colt loves to run around and play in the sand or woodchips. He is really liking the swings too. Surprisingly he isn’t afraid to climb all over the playground equipment. Of course, this means Mommy is climbing all over it right there with him. . . brings back some memories. He’s keeping me young ๐Ÿ™‚

We have fun though and the funniest thing is that there were several squirrels eating nearby, and Colt spots them. He starts saying “doggy doggy doggy” (unceasingly) while chasing the squirrels. I guess that’s closer in name than what he used to call squirrels – “ducks.” I mean, squirrels DO HAVE fur and 4 legs like “doggies” right?

Colt can also spot a “ball” from a mile away. We were walking home from the park and he was getting all excited about a “ball,” but I couldn’t find it. Sure enough there was one way several yards down near a house. It’s amazing what they see and understand.

Some new things he’s saying – “tickle tickle tickle” and he’ll poke around on you.
– “nilk” for milk
– “ju” for juice
That’s all the new “consistent” words anyways. Enjoy the pics from the park.

it’s a wonderful life. . .
