It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Last Saturday, David and I took the youth group from the chrch here to the mall for a “scavenger hunt.” The teens had a list of things that they had to get pictures of, such as the most expensive item, the biggest thing in the mall, playing paper rock scissors with someone they didn’t know, singing ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ to someone, shaking hands with a store manager, etc. It was a fun time(and funny pictures)!

While David and I were making our rounds with Little Man in the stroller, we stopped by the Picture People to watch some people and get ideas. A guy that worked there came out and offered us a free 8 x 10 and photo shoot for Colt. Of course, they were trying to reel us in to buy a package once we saw how good the pics were. We didn’t have a moment of weakness though – we just got the free one and the photo shoot. They emailed us all of them to keep though, but they have this copyright on them so we can’t print them off (that’s the “Z” in the pics).

Colt was such a ham! He was feeling good 🙂

Momma’s Boy

Well, I guess I can call him a Momma’s boy right now. Although, I see that his daddy can get just as many coos and smiles out of him! You would think that I would have some kind of advantage since I spend all day everyday with him, but not so . . . I do enjoy my moments with him. He cracks me up all the time! I love to just sit and talk or sing to him. He’ll just smile and talk/sing right back! So, I guess I’ll just tell myself he’s a momma’s boy until he’s old enough to tell me otherwise 🙂

Little Reader. . .

I read in Parents Magazine that curling up with your little one and reading every day starts a great habit and gives them a love for reading down the road. Well, I know you can’t believe everything you read, but what could it hurt! I enjoy spending time cuddling with my little buddy and watching him look at all the pictures, listen, and try to pull at the book.

Look how I found him the other morning!! Just reading away without me 🙂 haha. . . so maybe I just posed him a little bit, but he’s getting used to this reading thing!
(I didn’t know how many times I used the word “read” until I reread this post!)

Happy Birthday Brother

Monday, November 17, was my brother’s birthday. He is a typical strong and rugged hunter/mountain man 🙂 He can not only make you laugh, but his personality is one that could make a friend anywhere. He’s the deerslayer that started my wonderful husband with the hunting obsession!

In 1989, when Heath was 6 years old, he played tee ball (baseball). I remember being out with my dad when we received the page (didn’t have a cell phone then) to call. Mom said they were taking Heath to the hospital because he had been hit in the head with a baseball while playing. His helmet had fallen off. The doctors didn’t give him much hope. They said “if” he lived, he would have brain damage. So many prayers were offered up for this sweet boy!! His uncle even got saved through this trial. the Father answered prayer, and Heath was up eating PBJs and icecream the next day!! the Father used this for good indeed – a soul won to Him and the faith of many was strengthened!
Well, another testing of faith came again in Dec. 4, 1999. My parents and I were a couple of hours away at one of my high school basketball games when we received the phone call that Heath and 2 of his hunting buddies had been in a bad wreck. A deer had ran out in the road in front of them. They were hunting in a different county and would have to be flown to the hospital in order to make it “in time.” Heath had been thrown from the jeep, which proceeded to roll over top of him as it flipped down the road. He had serious damage to his liver, his lung was collapsed, he was bleeding. . . no one could really judge the severity, but it was clear that he was not stable. The MediVac couldn’t get to him because of the fog which meant he couldn’t be flown in. It took us over an hour to get to the hospital, but we got there way before he did. There were over 100 people there arriving shortly after us with lots of prayer and support. Word spreads fast!! They told us they were having to drive Heath there by ambulance, and he wouldn’t make it. Well, the prayers flew up again for this young man – and he did make it to the hospital. He looked dead though . . we saw them wheel him in. No one gave us much hope. But the Father answered prayer again. After 36 days in the hospital (Happy New Year, I know!!) Heath came home with an in-home health nurse. The doctors said he was a medical miracle! He even made the news 🙂 He has made it thus far with no long term injuries or affects from that day.
Since then, it’s been a bumpy road. He’s had a couple more car accidents. One night Dad got to him before the ambulance. He had been thrown from yet another vehicle and was lying in the middle of the road. It was dark, and any car could have ran over him and killed him, but the Father’s hand has stayed with him and protected Heath.
He has been blessed by this sweet little girl you see in the pictures, Sarah Rose Marie Curry. She is the perfect, happy, healthy baby girl any parent could dream of! Keep that family in your prayers. . . please. Who knows what the future holds, but the Father must have a plan for this man. Why would He have spared him so many times? There were many prayers answered on his behalf before, and I know there are many still being prayed for him now. Keep praying fervently that he will give his life over to the Father (Who has spared it so many times) before another birthday rolls around!

Snow and Baby Faces

We woke up to the first snow on Tuesday morning. . . It was beautiful (and cold!), but only about a half inch. They got about 6 inches in Beckley though! If we were still living there, we could’ve gone sledding at the Hogans 🙂 Colt would have loved that I’m sure!

Well, I’ve been having trouble with the blog. It wouldn’t upload my pics for me the past couple of days. . . but here are some expressions of Colt from Tuesday. The last one is obviously an unhappy face. He has started to fake cry at times, we can’t help but laugh 🙂 Sometimes when I lay him down for his nap, he’ll start that fake crying – he won’t have any tears or even get a tad red faced. Just as soon as you pick him up, he’ll be cooing and laughing. I wonder where he gets this? He’s definitely a precious child, full of expressions! His smile is one that you can’t get enough of because you have to work to get one. They are so bashful. He’ll flash one your way, then put his head down like he’s embarrassed. He’s such a happy baby though and does smile a lot, but if he doesn’t know you. . . he’d much rather study you than smile at you. I love staying home with him. I learn something new about him and his little person every day!

Have you ever seen a balding baby? :-)

Yeppers. . . Little Colty is losing his hair. Mostly on one side and the front/top. He’s still cute though! I think it would be just great if he would lose all of it except around the sides and back (which doesn’t seem to be falling out). Wouldn’t that look hilarious?

We had guest speakers at our chrch this morning – Dr. Ken and Diane Hay from the Wilds Camp in NC. We had a split Sunday School for the entire chrch  The women stayed upstairs with Mrs. Diane and the men went downstairs. We had a wonderful study on Ruth – our great example of a virtuous woman right before our eyes!

“Virtuous” – living life as an exceptional example of all that is good. It was quite convicting. My hearts desire has always been (or at least for many years) to be a virtuous woman. I’ve studied and memorized Proverbs 31, but even that chapter starts out with “Who can find a virtuous woman?” They seem to be few and far in between.

Mrs. Diane challenged us by asking if others would characterize us this way? Are we kind? Faithful? Good? Trustworthy? Industrious? Economical? Generous? Reverent? Wise? Wow. I know I will never reach perfection or spiritual maturity as a wife or mother, but it’s these fresh reminders that spur me on all the more to reach that goal!

The other challenging thing was that Ruth left all to follow her mother-in-law, Naomi. Naomi had such a great influence on Ruth! It was a great reminder to be an example to the younger girls as well as be thankful for the older. Not that my Mom or Mother-In-Law are “old” 🙂 but I am thankful for them both and our relationships as well as their examples. We are blessed more than most!

Romans 13:8-14 – Passage to Ponder

We had good today. David has been battling the flu bug of some sort. . . I hate it that he’s sick, but he’s so cute and “needy.” I love to be able to do more for him than he normally lets me do. He’s such a wonderful husband, and he has really missed his time with his little boy these past couple of days too while he’s trying not to expose Colt to whatever he has. We are trying not to get everyone in the house sick like we did last time he brought home that ‘ole cold. His fever broke last night though, and he is feeling some better today. The funny thing is, he won’t slow down or rest! He was outside blowing leaves and ladybugs off of the deck in the rain today!! You gotta love him though 🙂

Colt is just as precious as ever! He’s so happy and smiles all the time. He jabbers all the time too. There are two things that are funny about the kid though – he is very jumpy. It doesn’t take much more than an unexpected change in tone to startle him. He’ll jump and get all wide-eyed, wondering whether or not it’s ok or he should start wailing 🙂 It’s very amusing. The other thing is how inquisitive Colt is. He studies EVERYthing. He doesn’t miss a beat with anything or anyone. I wonder what he will be like when he gets older??

This could be the face of the next US President! He looks like he’s giving an important speech anyways. . . if only we could understand him 🙂 Actually, I hope the Lord comes back before the next election!

Get Ready!!

I know I posted a lot before, but now Mommy has a new camera that has made me even more picture crazy! So get ready for lots of pictures 🙂 At least I know Mama T will enjoy them! My sweet hubby got me a fabulous camera – If you are wondering what the occasion is . . . just because he’s wonderful and loves me I suppose.

We’ve been out of town for about a week. We went to North Carolina looking at houses while enjoying the company and gracious hospitality of Uncle Daniel and Aunt Renee. We were actually getting ready to sign papers on one home when our realtor received a call that it just went under contract with someone else! Even though we feel like a deadline is approaching, we praise the Lord for his clear direction regarding that situation. He only replaces something good with something better! We are excited to see where He leads!

Enjoy the pics from one of Mommy/Baby Boy photo shoots today 🙂

This is how Colt likes to sleep when he’s on his back. It cracks me up, but it also makes me stay very close because I have to make sure he can breathe! He’s always been that way though. . . he likes a blanky on both sides of his face to sleep. My two men 🙂 They really have a special bond. I’m thankful that David loves being a daddy – he really is a great one!

Our little man is getting so big! He loves to stand like this. . .

Sweet Little Boy . . .

Colt and I decided to get out for awhile today and went the mall with Nana Gail. He did so well! He slept for the first hour and a half after was got there. Then he was content in my little Snugli front carrier. He just watched all the people and looked at cute baby clothes! He did get a little fussy because it was hot and he was getting sleepy. But he calmed right down and fell asleep when I put him back in his carseat. He’s so much fun to have around! We missed Daddy today though. He went to Kings Island Amusement Park with the teens from chrch!!

Daddy’s future bluegrass buddy 🙂 I think that if David taught each kid one or two of the instruments he plays so well. . . we just might take the show on the road! haha 🙂
