We found an aquarium in KL very close to our hotel. It had some of the most beautiful fish! The kids just loved it, and it was a nice break indoors from the heat (it was super hot there)!
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Part 3)

Caden’s new move. He does this often. Maybe just seeing what everything looks like upside down? 🙂

It was quite strange to be swimming when this other woman was so fully covered. Burdened for the lost. . .
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Part 2)
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Part 1)
About 2 weeks ago, our family took a trip to KL, Malaysia. Just about everyone we talked to mentioned the plane from KL that has “disappeared” just a week earlier than our trip. We weren’t nervous though – in the Father’s hands and His timing.
The kids did beautifully on the flight there. It only took about 5 hours from our city to KL – direct flights are so very nice. We also packed in just 2 backpacks and 1 carry-on duffel! Our hotel had washer/dryer facilities, so I only packed 2 outfits, swimsuits, diapers, and snacks. It’s really nice not to have to wait for luggage when you get off the plane. It’s also really nice to have backpacks as carry-ons so you can be hands free for the kiddos.
Colt enjoyed taking pictures and making videos with my phone during the flight. This is actually a really good one huh?

And this is what happened to entertain everyone during the flight. I don’t know why I bothered to pack snacks. The kids were eating the whole trip. . . snacks that everyone else gave them! Â They are just so adored here! It never ceases to amaze me!

What’s really interesting, is that on our flight to Kuala Lumpur AND ON THE RETURN TRIP we sat beside the same people!! hahaha. They had a little boy a couple of months older than Caden. We talked to them a good bit (as much as we could anyways), Kylie played with the baby and squeezed him too death, and we exchanged snacks of course! They gave our kids things like dried seaweed and “beef floss rolls,” mmmmmm. . . not a big hit with Colt and Kylie. Caden seemed to like it just fine though 🙂

I have too many pics and videos for one post, so I’m going to break it up into several. It was a good trip! More to come. . .
Kuan Xiang Zi
My friend took me out one Saturday, after the kids went to bed, to this great traditional/historical/tourist-y place! Â I loved it! Â Just everything about it was so fun and interesting. Â I didn’t buy anything, but we did eat about any food we wanted (none of which I had ever eaten before that night). Â So thankful for the friend and the experience (and my hubs for staying home so I could go)!

The gong they struck every time they made a rice ball (like the ones we had in the appetizers pictured above).

A really pretty place 🙂
Bizarre Foods continued. . .
Last Friday, our tutor took us out for Mao Cai. It’s a style of food/restaurant/eating where you pick out your food (which can be meat, vegetables, tofu, eggs, or organs) from the refrigerator. The cook then prepares it all for you and brings it out in a bowl of spicy soup. It was a neat experience! My favorite vegetable here is Lotus root. Soooo yummy! So I ate lots of that and other veggies and some tofu. David was the much more adventurous one this trip!
For those of you who think you now never want to come visit. . . let me tell you that we absolutely LOVE the food here! It’s so fresh and nutritious! Lots of variety and and lots of hot hot spicy dishes! Which we again . . we love! In fact, our friends who have lived here for 10 years haven’t tried most of the bizarre foods we have tried. So, I think you have to “seek it out” to get that “privilege” 🙂

Bizarre Foods
In America, there were so many foods that I just chose not too eat because there were better options. Yet, here, when a local so kindly brings you “gifts” of food or buys you dinner (and they also order it). . . you don’t really get that option 🙂 Last week David and I ate some very strange things that I never would have chosen. . . and never will choose for that matter 🙂 Here is the running list:
1. Cow tongue
2. Dried salted sliced plum
3. Weird horse bean (that was it’s name)
4. Congealed pig blood
5. Pig intestines
6. Spicy salty hardboiled duck egg
7. Spicy raisins
8. Goat on a stick
9. Tree fungus
10. Some gray gelatinous chicken something or other
11. Algae soup
12. Algae “meatballs”
Tomorrow we are supposed to eat lunch out with our tutor again. . . so I’m sure our list will be updated! 🙂
Paper, Rock, Scissors – Asian style
These boys were so thrilled that they knew the same game even though they were speaking different languages! Â So cute!!
Yummy Algae!!
We have started a ritual to eat lunch out with our tutor every Friday after class. Â It’s been a lot of fun because she orders lots of new things we never would’ve dreamed of trying. . . for example: Algae Hot Pot!
Hot Pot is very popular here. Â You get uncooked meat/veggies and cook it in a boiling pot right there at your table. Â Just throw in what you want! The algae hot pot was “special” though. . . it has digestive health benefits and it’s green (that makes it even MORE special). Â It was a lot better than it looks!
Kylie’s First Day of School!
We have been so very blessed with a wonderful Aiyi to help with our kids while we are in class each day.  Our Aiyi is a Sister and is so very kind and patient towards our children!  Somehow though (maybe because she only speaks Chinese and communication is difficult), Kylie hasn’t quite taken to her like Caden has 🙂
So after 5 months of coming home to find Kylie being mad at our Aiyi for something or other. . . we decided to try half-day Chinese preschool for Kylie.  We found a small daycare across the street from our classroom so it’s very convenient and affordable too! Kylie will go from 9-12:30 which is the same as our schedule.  The daycare is nice and there are 3 teachers and 6 kids – I think that ratio is great 🙂
No tears today! Â She loved it and can’t wait to go again tomorrow!! Soooo thankful!
