The Great Outdoors

As I was talking to David Monday night and Tuesday about his plans for the week I started scheming. He had offered to help his uncle in South Carolina and was going to be gone Thursday-Saturday, taking Colt with him because I have to work on Saturday and couldn’t go. But, I couldn’t imagine what I would do with myself, all by myself, for those days!! Total quiet. Hmmm. . . the house was already clean. The laundry finished. I guess I could read for 48 hours straight??

Then, I called to check in with my parents and Dad mentioned (several times) how much he was missing his little buddy (Colt). He hadn’t seen him since Valentine’s weekend. So I ran my idea by David and he thought it was great.

Tuesday about noon Colt and I loaded up for West Virginia! We didn’t tell Gramps or Nana, just walked right up to them when we got there! Were they surprised! It was cute though, Colt saw my Dad first, as soon as he spotted him he ran to him – “PAPAW!” Very cute. He was excited to see Nana too of course!

Colt and I are missing David, but we had fun outside yesterday. We went and played with Sarah’s bunnies and explored!

Random Pics

I’m posting “TWOOOO” (2) random pictures because Colt likes to say “twoooo.”

Me – “How many vitamins do you get Colt?”
Colt – “TWOOOO!!” (which is correct, and I believe where this 2 kick started)

Me – “How many balls are there Colt?”
Colt – “TWOOOO!!” (not even close)

His other thing is the color “BLUUUUEEEE!” Maybe because it rhymes with “TWOOOO!”

Me – “What color is the sky Colt?”
Colt – “BLUUUUEEEE!”

Me – “What color is the grass Colt?”
Colt – “BLUUUUEEEE!”
Me – “No, the grass is green. What color is the grass Colt?”
Colt – “GREEEEEN!”
Me – “Very Good! Now, what color is the sky Colt?”
Colt – “GREEEEEN!”
Me – laughing.

Elvis (stylist: Daddy). Yeah, Baby.

Colt is loving his chalk. I found him even drawing on himself and his shoes. Very nice 🙂

Folly Beach Vacation (Final Part)

So these first 2 photos might seem alarming. A toddler playing with a Doberman. Yes, I was alarmed at first too. We had gone to dinner at Hyman’s (EXCELLENT seafood) in Charleston and decided to walk to the Battery afterwards. Of course, Colt spotted this Doberman (named Junior) and ran straight towards him. Trying to catch him!! I was fearing for his life, but the owner said he was great with kids. What? Doberman = kid friendly. I think not.

Arun, the owner, turned out to be Hindu and David was able to have a good long conversation with him about religion and cultural things while Colt, Junior, and I played. I must say Junior is the most amazing dog I’ve ever seen. He was so intelligent and incredibly fast. He loved for Colt to play fetch with him and would even bring the ball back to Colt. Never once did he even “play-bite” at Colt. I think my nerves calmed down after about 30 minutes of being around this dog.

Obviously, they were good enough buddies to play in the water fountain together! Colt kept calling him “Wosie” though.

Junior was waiting for Colt to throw his ball (I know he looks like he’s going to pounce him!) haha.

Fun day at the beach!! Colt watching Daddy fly a kite. Kisses and lovins. Popsicles. Sand. Wagons. Water. Cousins. What more could you ask for?

Folly Beach Vacation (Part 2)

One of the fun things we did was taking the little guys to the SC Aquarium in Charleston. I think they enjoyed seeing all of the different fishies 🙂

Colt and Jakob (my cousin’s little boy) are about 3 months apart. Colt really enjoyed having Jakob around. He still likes to look at pictures and videos of the two of them. He’ll loudly say “Jaaaakob!”

We had never seen turtles interact like this??

Colt and the penguins

David and the bald eagle (I don’t know how the eagle fits into the “fish/aquarium” aspect – maybe because he eats the fish?)

Folly Beach Vacation (Part 1)

We were invited by my sweet mother and aunts to Folly Beach, SC last week. We went down from Tuesday – Friday morning. It was nice to get away for awhile and see some family of course!

The weather was a little cool at first, but we ventured out for an evening walk on the beach. It was a good thing Colt had on swimming clothes, because he and his crazy daddy DID get in the ocean (despite what I would call frigid conditions!). They had a blast though, and Colt LOVED the water. That made the vacation all the more fun of course. Obviously, Rosie went too. She is a true lab. . . loving the water right along with Colt.

Colt was “walking Rosie” (or Rosie walking Colt. . . not sure)

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to a wonderful father-in-law, Papaw, and Dad! We love you Daddy D!

Grandpa and Grandma Haas

We always love to stop in Goldsboro and visit Gpa and Gma Haas. Colt loves them just like any other child would! And, of course, he loved Gma’s 4 little ducklings and the chickens 🙂 David and I enjoy their company and their godly example is such and encouragement. Only wish we saw them more!

Atlantic Beach, NC

We took a mini family vacation this weekend to Atlantic Beach, about 3 hours away. I had a nursing conference at the Sheraton right there on the beach – doesn’t that spell family time (and not work time) to you?

Colt LOVED the water. He was talking about the ocean before he knew what the ocean was just from us telling him where we were going 🙂 Very cute. I had high aspirations of family pics but we left the tripod in the car AND Colt fell down in the ocean water the second the waves crossed his little feet. “So much for that outfit and the cute pictures” I thought! But, my wonderful hubby talked me into believing the world was still a good place. . . and he was right. I’m pleased with all the memories we captured!

So, here are a billion pics. . . I didn’t even post them all!!

Kitchen

BEFORE:

Pictures don’t do justice. . .

We painted the cabinets and purchased new hardware. That in and of itself was a HUGE improvement! David bought the knobs off ebay at 1/3 of the price they would have been at Lowe’s. We purchased our granite from Lowe’s though. They all know us by name there because we are in and out so much! I think we are close enough with the staff to have them over for a “finished product” party 🙂 Anyways, we price matched and used a coupon so they “gave us some granite” (in their own words). It was a good deal too!

David did a great job on all of the tile. He taught himself and did it like a pro! My fav is the backsplash behind the oven/stove. Obviously, we also purchased new appliances. HHGregg promises to beat any price 🙂

For our cabinets, we painted them an “antique white” color then glazed them with a mocha glaze. David applied the glaze and I followed behind wiping off the cabinets but leaving some brown accent in the corners. We like the finished product. This cost about . . . $35 for a gallon of paint and glaze. Compare to thousands for new cabinets and a very similar look.

This is my little armoire/hutch thing. My craigslist purchase. I love the color and look of it. It’s great and functions as my desk/file storage/bill payment/computer area.
