Winter Solstice Festival

Winter Solstice happened on December 21 this past year. It marks the longest night and shortest day of the year. Per tradition here we eat dumplings on this certain day of the year. So, you can see in some of the pictures below we were rolling out purple (color from purple sweet potatoes), green (color from spinach), and white dough to wrap the meat/chive filling in. Then it was boiled and eaten with A TON of other foods as displayed on the tables. It was delicious! We also did some paper cutting, ping pong ball blowing, balloon and three person races.

  1. I am not an adventurous eater so I don’t know if I could make it there. Can you show a picture of a purple sweet potato at some time? Does it taste like a regular sweet potato?

    • It tastes different actually – but you know what they say. . . the more colorful it is the better is it for you! So, they are yummy and nutritious! I have some right now, I’ll try to remember to post about it for you soon.
