Village Trip

After our trip to the States (around the world is less than 30 days) we came back to Asia with yet more travel ahead. There were some friends here from the States that we took out to a village in the province north of us. Coming backĀ  from the States raring to go, we decided to take advantage of the kids being on break and take the whole family. In hindsight it probably wasn’t the best idea. This wasn’t the AM people, it was a different minority people’s village that these friends were wanting to learn about. . . and it was a 6 hour bus ride away. By the time we got there, we were all tired of a full day of travel and there weren’t any good hotel options. We settled on one, dropped our stuff and got some dinner. During dinner, one of our children knocked a hot pot of pigs feet off the table and barely missed giving Caden and David a really bad burn. Father’s provision in this was that I had turned the flame off from under it (that was on to keep the soup boiling) on accident or it would have been much worse, since David did get some hot oil on his arms and legs. It was a huge mess with some screaming from me (Haley) as it all went down since I was afraid someone was going to be badly burned. Day 2 I woke up with the onset of a migraine and proceeded with the full blown one with vomiting and ended up staying in the room with Kylie while D took the boys and our friends to visit people on their farm. Thankfully, our friends had some medicine and I was feeling better by that evening and able to enjoy dinner. We also weren’t able to find tickets back because everything was sold out for some reason, so we had to hire a guy to drive us all the back on Day 3. Thankfully, that only took 5 hours. . . quicker than the bus. But there were 8 of us in his 7 seater so it was a bit tight in the back. Coming out of those 3 days was a bit rough, but there is much to be thankful for in the midst of it all!

  1. I always feel like I have just flipped through a National Geographic magazine when I look at your pictures. So glad no one got burned. I really can’t imagine you hollering because you are so soft spoken. Love to all.
