We made a weekend trip to Hunan province to say goodbye to some good friends before their return to the States. They live about 1 hour from the famous “Stone Forest” or Zhang Jia Jie. It’s known for its unique mountains, and if you have seen the move Avatar, it was also based on this scenery. As you can see from the pics, it REALLY is amazingly beautiful. The park has several different parts. The first day we rode the cable car up Tian Men Shan and found it covered in snow! The kids loved hiking and being out in this huge national park from morning to dark. So thankful we were able to make this trip!
The mountains are breathtaking!
Locals washing their clothes in the fresh mountain streams
The “specials” advertised outside of a local restaurant included organic chicken, rat, giant salamander, and snake!
Hanging meat isn’t uncommon at all. . . check out the piece Colt is “biting into.” It’s the pig’s face :)
Family pic photo bombed by a monkey :)
There were monkeys EVERYWHERE! Colt enjoyed them the most being the animal lover that he is :)
Just hanging out on the trail. . .
Again, the uniqueness of these mountains. . the “Stone Forest.”
We did a 5 hour hike following this creek through the mountains. The kids did great, and it was truly beautiful.
I just love this picture. . .
Tian Men Shan had way more snow than we were expecting!!
The building across the way is a temple on the top of the mountain.
Colt was BEYOND excited about getting to play in the snow. He didn’t care that we weren’t dressed warm enough. He would have stayed there all day to play in the snow!
Beautiful. We haven’t seen snow for years. . . What a treat!
Definitely glad we made the extra effort to visit here!
Beautiful picture but an even more beautiful family. Oh what adventures you are going on! I loved the pictures with the monkeys. I would be like Colt, because I love animals and especially monkeys. So did Colt eat any of the “specials” listed on the menu? It seems like Caden has grown and changed so much in the past few months. Prayers for your family.
Thanks for sharing this adventure. I can see by the smiles on the faces that it was an enjoyable time for everyone! Love to all!
